Thermaltake continues to bolster its Tt eSPORTS gaming products almost daily it seems and has made a serious push as of late to become THE name in gaming peripherals and accessories. The Azurues Optical Gaming Mouse is another new mouse option provided by Tt eSports giving the hardcore gamer yet another option when looking for gaming devices.

So what exactly does Azurues mean anyway? We don’t have a clue! Searching around yields a BitTorrest program that bears the same name, but it’s highly doubtful the mouse is named after that. So, with the assumption that the Azurues name is simply a creative impulse by those that name the products for Tt eSports, we’ll leave it at that!

Lets start by giving a brief overview of the Tt eSports branding.

Keeping in line with the usual Tt eSPORTS packaging design of red and black, along with a picture of the product, the Azurues box continues on in the same light. The front of the box displays a picture of the top of the mouse, some branding, a few blurbs about FPS battle ready, DPI options and the included weights.

The sides of the box are simply red in color and have branding on them.

The back of the box has a quick mention of features in a multilingual format.

The face of the box opens up like a book with the left side showing the Azurues gaming grade performance specifications and several pictures of the device’s features. At this point, to get at the mouse, you slide the package casing out of the box which reveals the nylon storage pouch sitting on the top. Under the pouch is the warranty policy and the quick start guide. As a side note, the Azurues Gaming Mouse comes with a two year warranty. Under the pamphlets is where you finally come to the mouse itself securely nestled in the plastic casing.

By now you are probably asking what the heck that red target decal is all about in a couple of the below pictures. It’s actually pretty cool and can be used as an aiming guide in First Person Shooter games if placed in the center of your monitor. We guess the best use would be to scope an opponent without the need for the in game cross-hair. Cheating??? Heck no! We would rather call it an eSPORTS advantage!

Before we get much deeper in to the review, let’s have a look at the features and specifications of the Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Azurues Gaming Mouse.

The Azurues Mouse is advertised as being fully covered in rubber, but in actuality, just the top of the mouse has the rubber coating. Both sides of the mouse are the standard fare, hard plastic found on most mice.

The top of the mouse does have the advertised rubber coating and features an illuminated scroll wheel along with a Fade-In/Fade-Out lighted Tt logo. Both lighted areas are red in color. There is just the left/right buttons and a scroll wheel built in to the Azurues, nothing else.

The bottom of the mouse has some interesting items to look at. First the 3-way DPI switch is located at the bottom and as mentioned in the specifications, can be adjusted to either 400/800/1600. We would probably prefer to see a dpi “on-the-fly” option rather than a switch. Also at the bottom of the Azurues is a removable plastic cover over the Weight-in feature. Removing the cover allows access to the three 4.5g weights which can be removed or used in any combination needed to find your own sweet spot.

As far as testing the Azurues goes, I plugged it in and used it for a few days for my gaming sessions, office applications, video editing and working with pictures. We did notice during heated gaming that the button sensitivity was, well….. a bit too sensitive and often times resulted in unwanted clicks. This usually happened during intense fast motion periods. This may not be an issue for most people because I consider my hands to be a bit larger than average. I would imagine using the mouse for a more extended period of time would result in adapting to the over sensitive buttons during gaming sessions. To be honest, a lot of gamers do like very sensitive mouse buttons, it’s a matter of preference for the individual.

Using the mouse for just about any other task was a breeze and the mouse responded well under all DPI settings. I found the mouse to be very comfortable while using it for long periods performing mundane workstation type tasks and it could be considered a top of the line option for these tasks.

The Teflon feet provide an excellent smooth feeling as you glide the mouse about your mouse pad. The 500Hz optical engine pulling rate provides excellent tracking and precision movements.

The Azureus is intended to be a no frills “back to basics” gaming mouse and with the standard 3-Button design, it very difficult to argue that point. Made explicitly for First Person Shooter gaming, the Azureus does perform quite well under that circumstance. However, under different gaming genres it can be less than desirable. That being said, it is advertised as a First Person Shooter mouse, and that it is! The lighting feature and the braided cable are both features usually reserved for mice priced much higher than the Azurues.

Pros

  • Stylish Looks
  • Braided Cable
  • Rubber Coating On Top Area
  • Good Performance in FPS Games
  • Weight-In Option
  • Lighting Feature

Cons

  • Rubber Coating Not on Mouse Sides
  • Over Sensitive Buttons
  • No On-The Fly DPI Setting Option

If you are in the market for a “Back-To-Basics” FPS gaming mouse that also shines brightly as a daily use device, then the Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Azurues should be on your short list of options.

The Azurues Gaming mouse has earned a 7/10 and the accompanying Silver Award!
