Introduction

Many case manufacturers vie for the title of a ‘Water Cooling Ready Product’ however few actually get it right, many even ‘half-attempt’ this by drilling three holes at the back of the chassis and say it is compatible with Water Cooling. However, the consumer is not so easily fooled and neither are the writers at Overclockers Tech. As far as we are concerned, if the product is unable to accommodate at least one 240mm sized radiator, then it is our opinion it is not fit for the purpose.

There are few cases out there than can accommodate water cooling as easily as air, however one company thinks it has this combination just right. This would be the company we all know as CoolerMaster and the product in question is their New ‘Storm Trooper’ chassis.

In all honesty this case seems to have caused a stir in the water cooling world; however it is time we took our objective eye over the product to determine what can be gleaned.

Introduction

Since the dawn of enthusiast computing, cases have come in all shapes and sizes-ranging from the large off-white box which (In Monty Python style) would ‘slice our hands off at the wrist’ to the more elegant and expensive of chassis. In the ‘ye-olde’ days a typical case would be a beige monstrosity with a ‘turbo’ button and a speed indicator in order to show off how fast it is. If this was not bad enough the insides were made from sheet-tin, and unwary hands could receive serious injury as a result. The hazards would be double if you were brave enough to invest in a ‘budget case.’ At that time a low-cost product would be around Â£60 sterling and ‘my’ have times changed.

Introduction

In the computer industry, cases are a rather hit and miss affair. With some monstrosities such as the forthcoming Thermaltake Ten to the elegant Lian Li cases, we have seen computer chassis come and go.

Remember the days when computer cases were a drab off-white colour and full of razor sharp edges?Â In those days building a computer was considered baptism by fire!Â The nearest a consumer could get to an elegant case was from Apple and these had the resemblance of boiled sweetsÂ In today’sÂ world weÂ see many types of computer enclosures and in many interesting shapes. To add another factor into this ‘whirlpool’ of chassis configurations; we now have the consumers themselves making their own cases!

Fractal Design was founded in Sweden in the year 2007 by a Mr Hannes Wallin!
